With no accommodation booked we were dropped in Leon and the search was on for a place to stay. We tried 2 hostels with no luck and continued along with our somewhat pointless maps on the look out for a 3rd recommended hostel. There were not many people walking the worn streets but there were men guarding nearly every building. In some ways it was comforting but it more so highlighted the need for it after dark. After getting lost in the streets a few more times we arrived at Lazybones hostel and as the saying goes – 3rd time lucky we were.
We wasted no time enjoying a fresh cold Victoria (one of two popular local beers) from the Lazybones’ fridge and jumped in the pool to cool down before heading out for dinner. We found a place called Captain Jack’s and enjoyed our first Nicaraguan meals together along with a few more Victoria’s and Caipirinha’s.
After finishing up we headed out to see what Leon’s nightlife had to offer. We tried some other hostels where there had been plenty of people sitting around earlier but the mood had dulled down quite a bit. We had a quiet drink with a few locals before following some to a small club called Oxygen. It was pretty funny in there, they had a mixture of Spanish and English songs playing and there was some form of partnered dance competition going on. I ordered a round of drinks and due to my lack of understanding of the Spanish language I’m pretty sure I paid around 3 times the price. We stayed around for a while before heading home, ready for our first full day in Nicaragua and exploring Leon.
