For the first time since arriving at Little Corn we were all up bright and early in order to compete for space on the 7am panga (boat) back to Big Corn Island. This is where we were to board the ferry and begin our journey to San Juan Del Sur. We couldn't have had a better day for continuing our journey, a clear blue sky and smooth seas. We said goodbye to Tanya and Bec who had decided they had had enough of Nicaragua (crazy) and set off.
After our enjoyable ferry trip back to the mainlands, we arrived at Bluefields and moved through to the boarding area for pangas to our destination - Rama. The boarding process was a bit nerve wracking as we continually handed over our passports to different authority figures not entirely sure why and being quite worried about not getting them back at all! It was as if we were boating in from Columbia rather than an island that is part of the same country! Eventually we were all seated in the boat only to then have another navy official (not sure if official is the right word!!) ask for our passports. Once again we retrieved them from our bags and handed them over, very weary about the fact that we were now all packed in the boat and somewhat helpless.
FINALLY, our passports were returned and we were on our way to Rama. The ride was somewhat bumpy at first but for the majority of the ride it was completely smooth and quite enjoyable. We sped up a river surrounded by banana palms and little huts, locals in canoes and children waving as we went past.
When we arrived in Rama it was around 5pm and we spent some deciding whether we should continue to San Juan Del Sur or wait until the following morning. I felt sorry for Camila, the only one out of any of us that could speak with the many different locals trying to convince us to take their buses and taxis.
Eventually it was decided that we were going to bus to Managua (arriving in the middle of the night) and then have 4 taxis meet us to take us to San Juan Del Sur (arriving around 3 in the morning). While it wasn't my first choice to arrive in the Nation's dangerous capital city in the middle of the night we began our trip, not being able to do much more than hope for the best!
